CHEM 622 Bioinorganic Chemistry Credit 3 This course deals with the functions of metallic elements in biology. These functions range from simple structural roles to much more complex roles when they transfer electrons and break bonds. Consequently the roles of metal ions and a variety of non-metals in crucial life processes will be discussed. This course will also examine the physical methods and techniques used in this field (e.g. EXAFS, ESR, Mossbauer, and NMR). In?depth discussion will also cover metalloenzymes and metal complexes used as imaging agents.
