PHYS 283 Modern OpticsCredit 3 This course presents an in-depth discussion of the principles of geometrical and physical optics. Approximately one-fourth of the course is devoted to geometrical optics and one-half to wave optics, including wave motion and interference, diffraction, polarization, and dispersion, etc. The remaining one-fourth of the semester is devoted to quantum optics which includes recent developments in the fields of lasers. Prerequisite(s): PHYS 182 H and PHYS 184 H; or PHYS 263 and PHYS 265 .
