EDCI 410 Literacy in the Content Area: Part II

This course, the second of the content literacy courses, extends the knowledge and skills developed in Content Literacy I to real-world application in a secondary public school classroom.  Candidates will identify characteristics of the adolescent learner, assess, plan, and instruct students in reading and writing, based on their individual and colective strengths and weaknesses.  Candidates will also demonstrate knowledge of a range of instructional strategies used to meet the diverse needs of students in content specific classroom environment, identify and create effective elements to develop and expand content-specific vocabulary and knowledge.  A variety of instructional text and assessment options will be considered to maximize student learning.  this course is designed to coincide with the 20-day internship experience and is intended for all secondary and specialty area teacher candidates.   Prerequisite(s): EDCI 409, Teacher Candidacy Status  Corequisite(s): Phase 1 (20 day) Internship
