EDSP 200 Introduction to Special EducationCredit 3 This course focuses on the intellectual, physical, sensory, social and emotional characteristics and needs of exceptional individuals, including those with disabilities and gifts/talents, from birth through adulthood. Emphasis is placed on a survey of the various exceptionalities as well as on an overview of historical and legislative perspectives and on current and future directions in the field of special education. Educational and supportive services appropriate for exceptional individuals are also presented, as are the roles of general and special educators in the delivery of these services. This course is designed for Teacher Education majors. Students will have a required field experience in the local public schools.
