ARAB 201 Intermediate Arabic ICredit 3
This course is designed to bring student’s proficiency in Arabic to intermediate low level as defined by ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) guidelines; in term of listening, speaking, reading and writing. In addition, students will learn and understand cultural practices. The student will learn to read and write more complex structures of the Arabic language and alphabet. The student will also learn to read and write without recourse to translations. By the end of the semester students are expected to attain the following outcomes: Improve their language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) to the intermediate low level; Speak about themselves and their environment, carry out transactions, and initiate and sustain conversation on a number of topics; Talk about past events, and future plans in Arabic; Express opinion in Arabic; Employ more complex vocabulary and sentence patterns in communicative contexts. Form and understand almost all basic sentence structures of Arabic; Identify, describe, and explain aspects of the culture, behavior patterns, and traditions of the Arabic world. Prerequisite(s): ARAB 102
