ENGL 348 Afrofuturism

This course is designed to introduce college students to Afrofuturism as it manifests itself in literature, music, art, and film. We will examine the following questions: How do authors who re-envision the past and design a narrative future effectively shape our present? What sets Afrofuturistic works apart from science fiction or dystopias? How do futuristic writing and fantastical genres foster possibilities in the now? How can you contribute to an en/re-visioning of the future? Prerequisite(s): ENGL 101  and ENGL 102
