The School of Education, Social Sciences and the Arts (SESA) prepares students to excel as creative thinkers, practitioners and professionals in a global community. Students are thoroughly grounded in the finest traditions of the liberal arts and social sciences and learn to understand themselves and others within regional and global contexts that are shaped by the university’s commitment to social justice and community empowerment.
By providing the best practices of teaching, learning, civic engagement, interdisciplinary research, and leadership, the school focuses on preparing all graduates to succeed in their selected career paths. Exposure to world languages and culture through academic coursework and study abroad opportunities with our international partners enhances the value of your UMES degree.
SESA offers undergraduate majors in teacher education in the following disciplines: agriculture, art, biology, chemistry, English, family & consumer science, social studies, and technology & engineering. The school also offers undergraduate majors in applied design, criminal justice, digital media, English, general studies, history, sequential arts, sociology, and a dual sociology/social work degree in collaboration with Salisbury University.
