Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Rural Health Disparities and Social Inequities

The Post Baccalaureate Certificate (PBC) in Rural Health Disparities and Social Inequities will be open to students who possess a baccalaureate or graduate degree with demonstrated interest in enhancing their skills in rural health disparities, social determinants of health inequities. Students with an interest in rural program development, rural health and social research, and community engagement with rural communities and stakeholders are also appropriate for this program. Health department personnel, policy staff and health care professionals who desire to expand their expertise in rural health disparities, ethnic health inequities, and social determinants of health are also constituencies to be served.

This PBC will be offered fully online and consist of 12 credits in graduate level coursework. It will provide students with a foundation required to:

  1. describe and monitor rural and rural ethnic disparities and inequities,
  2. comprehend the range of contributing factors related to rural health inequities and disparities in major disease/disorder categories,
  3. design-implement-evaluate rural focused research or services programs designed to address rural health disparities or related social inequities, and
  4. discuss and apply concepts of social determinants of health

A combination of three 3-credit courses and one 3-credit special study course will comprise this program.
