The School of Business and Technology at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) proposes to establish a Bachelor of Science in Simulation and Game Development (BSSIGD) degree at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). The BSSIGD aims to offer prospective students an academic program with strong foundations in simulation technology and practice to meet the needs of technical professionals including those in the Eastern Shore of Maryland with more advanced learning in the rapidly developing field of simulation technology and game development. The program, if approved, will help students develop new technologies in the emerging fields related to game development for a wide range of applications including agriculture, automotive, aerospace, clean energy systems, construction, finance, health care, and hospitality management. It will also prepare them, especially those with disadvantaged backgrounds, with the knowledge and tools necessary to take on leadership roles to shape the future of technology advancement. According to ESA (www.theesa.com), the video game industry is primarily supported by the fields of software engineering and computer science but can include elements of artificial intelligence, electrical and electronic engineering, ergonomics, cybernetics, robotics, and automation control systems, hardware architecture, and telecommunications. Therefore, the proposed B.S. in Simulation and Game Development is designed to allow enrolled to have a solid foundation in computer science and software engineering topics, coupled with advanced classes in various areas of technology, to round out their academic program.
