ARAB 202 Intermediate Arabic IICredit 3 This course is designed to bring student’s proficiency in Arabic to intermediate low level as defined by ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) guidelines; in term of listening, speaking, reading and writing. In addition, students will learn and understand cultural practices. The student will learn to read and write more complex structures of the Arabic language. The student acquires sufficient skills to understand most factual material. Student will be able to comprehend discussions on concrete and familiar topics. By the end of the semester students are expected to attain the following outcomes: The individual is able to get the gist of main and subsidiary ideas in texts which could only be read thoroughly by persons with much higher proficiencies; Weaknesses include slowness, uncertainty, inability to discern nuance and/or intentionally disguised meaning; Improve their language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) to the intermediate high level; Use context and real to make sensible guesses; about unfamiliar material in Arabic; Demonstrate advance understanding and can separate the main ideas and details from lesser important details; Has a broad active reading vocabulary that he or she employ or produce complex sentence in communicative; contexts; Express opinion in Arabic; Form and understand almost negatives or more complex structures such as tense usage, case morphology and passive voice; Can understand idioms and some of the slang usage and expressions in spoken language.
