SOCI 388A Experimental Course: Medical Sociology

Credit 3
Medical sociology, a sub-field of sociology, examines the social contexts of health, illness, and health care.  Drawing from many perspectives, the field of medical sociology is concerned with basic sociological research and its implications for public policy and practice. The focus is on the social aspects of physical and mental illness, physician-patient relationships, the organization and structure of health organizations and the socio-economic basis of the health care system. Students enrolled in this course will develop research and analytical skills to address issues facing health care providers and those needing health care.   Prerequisite(s): SOCI 231 , SOCI 232  and Departmental Permission for Non-Sociology and Social Work Majors.
