KORE 102 Fundamentals of Korean IICredit 3 Fundamentals of Korean II is the second half of the introductory course, intended for students who have already taken KORE 101 or have an equivalent level of proficiency in Korean. The course aims to foster an advanced elementary level of Korean proficiency, with emphasis on the balanced development of interpersonal (speaking), interpretive (listening & reading), and presentational (writing & official speech) skills necessary to communicate in Korean. In this course, students will not only explore cultural aspects beyond what was covered in KORE 101 but also be exposed to diverse social situations, such as making purchases at a store, interacting with friends, asking and giving directions, and ordering food at a restaurant, which is integral to living in Korean society. In addition to textbooks, authentic materials (e.g., TV programs, movies, newspapers, etc.) will be incorporated into the course to enrich students’ basic communication skills and facilitate a more profound appreciation of Korean culture. To provide abundant opportunities for students to apply what has been learned in class, the course will include small group drill sessions, laboratory work, and various task-based activities.
