MUSI 313 Music History and Literature ICredit 2 This is a survey course designed to explore the evolution of music in Western Civilization. Musical forms, styles, social and political influences on music, periods of major importance, and characteristic elements associated with instrumental, vocal, and theoretical contributions are stressed. Selected recordings, scores, and elements of research in music history are included. This course covers the Grecian Era to the seventeenth century. Prerequisite(s): MUSI 201 and MUSI 203 with a minimum grade of C, or consent of the instructor. Three lecture hours per week.
