BIOL 423 Pathology Concepts of Disease

Credit 4
Pathology is a specific science that seeks to understand the biochemical, metabolic, cellular, histological, organ specific and Organismal causes and responses to conditions which promote disease. It is the goal of this course to introduce students to basic concepts of pathology, cellular and metabolic considerations related to diseases, and methods used in diagnostic pathology. We will then build on these concepts through lectures in systemic pathology. At the completion of this section, the student will be introduced to special pathology with lectures on specific disease entities, health conditions and other lectures that will provide a broader picture of human and veterinary pathology. The laboratory hour engages students in the evaluation of anonymous patient data to provide practice of actual clinical evaluations used by pathologists. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 112  and BIOL 114 .
