Biology-Biomedical and Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Track Semester by Semester


Students in the Biomedical and Pre-Medical or Pre-Dental track programs should take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) or Dental Admission Test (DAT) during the Spring semester of the academic year preceding the year in which admission to medical school is sought. Applications to medical/dental schools should be made no later than the fall of the senior year. Cell Biology, Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy, Physiology, Embryology and Histology are Biology program electives selected in this track. These courses will build a solid foundation for courses taken in the first year of medical school.

*Honors designated sections are offered. Honors enrollment is recommended for highly qualified students who wish to attend graduate and/or professional schools. Minimum gpa requirements may be imposed. Honors courses are designated with Honors.

1Students who place into MATH 099  will be required to complete MATH 099  and MATH 109  with grades of C or higher before they will be eligible to take MATH 110 . Students who place into MATH 109 will be required to complete that course with a grade of C or higher before they will be eligible to take MATH 110 .

2The English Proficiency Examination is given at the end of the semester. A student must enroll in ENGL 001  prior to enrolling in ENGL 102 .
3CSDP 220  may be substituted for either CSDP 121  or BUED 212 .
4Students may take BIOL 498  and BIOL 499  for 1 to 3 and 1 to 4 cr. hr., respectively, per semester; but they must repeat the courses to accumulate as many credits as required in the core program, which are 3 and 4, respectively.

5In Gen Ed Curr Area II, PSYC 100  is required by most medical/dental schools.

NOTE: PreMed students are strongly advised to work with their advisors to identify the appropriate Biology elective courses. Highly recommended courses include: BIOL 322  Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy, BIOL 341  Introductory Physiology, BIOL 326  Cell Biology, BIOL 327  Cell Biology Lab, and BIOL 436  General Endocrinology.
